The global report “Earth4All” is about transformative action of the food system towards regenerative and sustainable agriculture and providing healthy food for people without destroying the planet.
Vision:
In 2050, Austria will have a sovereign, resilient and efficient food system in which healthy food is made available to everyone without exploiting people, the environment or animals. This system is fair for everyone involved along the entire value chain, from producers to consumers. Regionality, communication between all stakeholders, innovation and a high level of awareness of nutritional practices and appreciation for high-quality and sustainable food play an important role here. Climate protection and the preservation of biodiversity, water and soil are seen as central tasks of the system. Conflicts are tackled proactively.
Levers and goals:
To make this possible, three levers for the food transition have been identified at a global level.
Together with stakeholders from all areas that can “operate” these levers, we have set about applying them to the Austrian situation and translate these terms as
- Changed diet: Reduce meat consumption, reduce highly processed food, reduce waste
- Efficiency and fairness of the food system: reduce soil sealing, reduce fertilizers, direct marketing, fair prices
- Socio-ecological land management: self-sufficiency, organic farming, biodiversity
Transformation revolution instead of endless crisis:
The importance and topicality of this issue was once again underlined by COP28 in Dubai in 2023, where “food systems” were given a prominent place as an integral part of sustainability solutions for the first time. Accordingly, 155 nations in addition to Austria signed the “Declaration on sustainable agriculture, resilient food systems, and climate action”, which recognizes the great potential of “food systems to provide powerful and innovative responses to climate change and create shared prosperity for all”, as well as the great opportunities for innovation in food systems.
Sustainably managed area:
On this page, we document relevant events and workshops, publish interviews and articles by qualified authors and will soon also present what we as the Club of Rome/Earth4All see as the consequences for Austria. We see all of this as contributions to a process that we believe should be initiated in Austria in the sense of a “turnaround in nutrition”.
